USA - Canada - Mexico 2016 - Day 15

Tuesday, 20 September 2016 - Milwaukee - Michigan City

After heavy rain overnight, we woke to a beautiful day. First up was a trip to a local medical centre to have Therese's wrist checked as advised by the Canadian doctor. After some conjecture that there was a sign of a healing small break, the final diagnosis was that it was just a sprain. A new more supportive splint and we were away. Sounds quick but that was around 3 hours.

With Therese patched up we headed for the Harley-Davidson Museum. Very informative with a lot of exhibits and displayed information. I even found a couple of surprise unknowns that you can check out in the photos. We didn't have to look very far for a lunch table as there is a large group of Harley branded tables and stools for use in the Museum grounds.

By 3 o'clock we were on our way south toward Chicago and crossed the border from Wisconsin into Illinois with a ride target of Michigan City and an option to go on to Jackson. Jackson was out of the question however once we got caught in the traffic going through Chicago. Bumper to Bumper, stop - start traffic until we started on the way back out of town. And this was using the toll ways, hate to think what it is like on the non-toll routes. The expected free flowing did not last for long. We soon came upon some road works where the exit we wanted to take was closed and the traffic was barely moving at all as they were combining 3 lanes of traffic where I was and two lanes from an entering highway into one lane. 5 into 1 is not an easy fit. The Spot shows we travelled just over 2 klms in 30 minutes. By now, our arrival time of 6:25 had blown out to 7:30pm.

With GPS directions we headed down the next exit and straight into a toll booth, paid the toll, then straight onto a side road without even touching the toll road. We did end up at a railway crossing just as the train approached though. I told you about the big trains the other day, this one took 6 minutes to go through. Finally arrived in the State of Indiana and Michigan City about 7:45pm.

Into our motel and ready for the night. A short travel but tiring day.

262 klms today, total to date 5648 klms.
